Posted on Wednesday, November 30 @ 07:50:16 PST by Red
Computer tech Firefox 1.5 is out. If you're still using Internet Explorer, do yourself a favor and download Firefox.

Is there anything new in it?

Among the improvements:
  • Popup blocking improvements
  • Better error pages
  • Improved OSX support
  • Tons of security fixes
They also claim "faster browser navigation," though I haven't noticed a speed boost (never really had a prob with 1.0.7's speed anyway).

I use Avantbrowser [www.avantbrowser.com] for a tabbed browsing solution. It's one of a number of tabbed, improved IE offshoots. You get the power of tabs and other improvements while maintaining the compatibility of IE. The downside, though, is that the last two builds have had a fairly major bug in them which I hope the developer fixes soon. So at this time I can't recommend the switch unless you just want to check it out.

Despite being a Mozilla/Firefox user since around Moz0.5, I'm getting a bit fed up with Firefox. In particular, the continuing memory hole issue is galling, and frankly, ridiculous after this long a development period. I'm seriously considering switching to the new (and newly free) version of Opera, which I've heard excellent things about.
