Turducken
Chicken in a duck in a turkey filled with stuffing. Sounds just like the perfect party item. Read about it here. I think I'll buy one this year.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Here's something I'm thankful for: gorgeous views like this.
Sometimes you take living in such a beautiful place for granted. Even Kapaa Quarry doesn't look so bad from this angle. By the way, it's
a hand-stitched panorama of 7 vertical shots.
Joy
I did the dirty deed and plunked down $50 for Ghost Recon today (I blame Mafioso entirely). Let me just say that this game is
AMAZING. The level of detail is astounding at times. This thing aboutely cries for system resources. Even at 1024x768, 16 bit, if I turn
up all the details, my framerates'll occasionally drop down into the teens.
They added a lot of cool stuff like rocket launchers and fixed machinegun emplacements
(in a nod to the popularity of Team Fortess, I'd bet).
But I think this will be the game that makes me upgrade to more modern hardware.

Just a little back dating.
Pet rat
Such cute little ratties. Cheaper and smarter than a lot of animals, the rat makes a great pet.
Friday off?
Unfortunately, I have to work on Friday. So this is one organization I could really support.
Oh, and a bit more flash madness. I promise this one is better than that last pot smoking one.
And lastly, this site full of musical parodies.
Hockey news
Patrick Roy has announced that he will not be playing for the Canadian Olympic Hockey team. But considering his backups are Brodeur and CuJo, I don't
think the Canadian team will be to worried about their goalie. Read about it here.

More random showfloor pics. Yes, eBay had little booths to track your auctions.

We've all heard of them. Here's a repository of dumb laws.

Funky ear problems? A certain ENT doctor, Dr. Hoffman, offers
this question-and-answer page
for your immediate mollification. Just something I stumbled across while trying to get my ear fixed before my Vegas journey.

Harry Pot
Harry Pothead and the Magical Herb, some flash animation for you amusement.
Xtreme figure skating
Now I've seen it all, a game based on competitive figure skating.
Gettin' it on, one cell style
Although sexual liaisons between different species is usually taboo, researchers in California are encouraging bugs to get down and get funky with hamster cells in work that is described as "rewriting sex manuals in the act." Bacteria mates similarly to humans, through a timely protruding phallus. It suckers a nearby bacterium, dragging it close enough to shoot in DNA through a process called conjugation.

Also in sex content, a flash ad for safe sex.

Catching up with Tom Clancey
Well a while back, Weid mentioned to me that Rogue Spear:Black Thorn had been
released (along with a demo), but it was Mafioso who finally
kicked me in the ass and dropped the BIG news on me: GHOST RECON IS SHIPPING!
Yes, the long-awaited "sequel" to Rogue Spear, or rather the next big thing from Redstorm,
Ghost Recon is a war-theatre combat simulation
that takes you a little beyond where Rogue Spear did. Equipped with infantry-style weaponry rather than CT stuff,
you play members of a recon team that are down to do some serious damage. Not much more I can say, but
get downloading on the demo
here or
here,
and see for yourself. A couple of screenshots are
attached for the wait (75 Megs long).
There are those that say this is a warmed-over Rogue Spear engine ... but I'm not so sure about that. The trees move,
for cryin' out loud! Turn up the details, and it will bring all but truly high-end systems to their knees (GHz+ and GF Ultras for
32-bit gaming at LEAST). Seems to me they have done some good things with this one, including more stances (including prone/belly crawl),
better AI (enemies go for cover!) and increased realism (no more instant-cappage from the computer characters).
Barbie +1
TOKYO (Reuters) - It's official -- Japan's ``Barbie'' is pregnant.
Japanese toymaker Takara Co launched on Friday a pregnant edition of its wildly popular
"Rika-chan" doll, Japan's version of Barbie. When purchased, the long-haired, wide-eyed doll
is clearly an expectant mother, complete with maternity dress and rounded belly.
Well the last post was about playing death, now here's one about playing life.
And the doll actually does "deliver" a baby. I wonder where the "special key" goes.

Damn ICQ
Well, ICQ finally screwed me into upgrading to 2000b -- the server was "losing" my messages to certain people.
It's an AOL hatch, I tell you. Anyway, here's a painless ad-removal link Mafioso
sent to me, upon hearing of my plight. It works for 2001 as well.
Send condolences here.

Unregistered trailers
Been forgetting to post this: for the Episode 2 trailers (and other trailers) WITHOUT having to register with
LucasFilm, try the Apple trailer site.
The new trailer is out, by the way.
Get your war on
Here's another irreverent, mostly non-PC comic that draws from the current situation in Agfhanistan for content.
Check out Get Your War On.
Fidelity mutual
Japanese women are turning to police science as they try to keep tabs on their husbands to see if they are cheating on them.
A Tokyo firm of private detectives is selling off-the-shelf forensic kits to women who want to catch their men out.
Forget about anthrax kits, these are what the world needs.

Euphemisms

Tantalus trails
I was out treking along the trails up in Tantalus. I really really need to get a map of the system before I go again. There are so many trails up there, it's quite easy to get lost.
Hockey hockey hockey
Hockey times for the week of 11/18/01. We really need to make a mission to Canada to watch a game.
