Only a slight bit of revisionist back-dating.
Daze'd and confused
Eric Daze scored two goals, an assist and was named MVP in the NHL All-Star Game. Check it out here.
Also from hockey news today, Khabibulin, kept it out.
What about Optimus Prime?
PHILADELPHIA -- If you want to use the phrase "Let's roll" on a t-shirt, you had better be ready to roll with the Todd M. Beamer Foundation.

NHL All-Star Weekend 2002
Well the NHL All-Star Weekend kicked off yesterday with the
YoungStars game, which Team Melrose
won 13-7, and the SuperSkills competition, which
the World All-Stars won by a point. Standouts in the skills competition included: Carolina's Sami Kapanen winning the fastest skater competition;
Detroit's Sergei Federov winning the hardest shot competition (101.5 mph, two-piece stick!); Calgary's Jarome Iginla and Vancouver's Markus Naslund
hitting 4 accuracy targets in 6 shots each; and Patty Roy and Dominik Hasek taking top honors in the goalie competitions (Lemieux did score on Hasek
on the breakaway competitions; Naslund scored on Roy). Jeremy Roenick, however, had possibly the sweetest goal of the last portion of the event.
Anyway, the All-Star game is on at 10am today, on ABC.
Spoofs!
No, Microsoft did NOT discontinue the Xbox, and no, they don't really have a knowledge base page that teaches you how to RTFM.
It's called URL spoofing.
White paper here.
Anyway, here is IGN's official stance on the Xbox's death.
Hmm, no GR patch yet. But they did announce the name of the mission pack -- Desert Seige. That explains all the tan camo.

Grand again
This has got to be one of the best signs ever.
Spotted, where else, but in the School Street hood.
FS does Ghost Recon
Well the squids over at Firingsquid finally put together a
Ghost Recon review.
Basically it does extremely well, but is cheated out of an Editor's Choice by Operation Flashpoint, which they apparently
aren't even going to review. Can one rightly deny the award based on a game that won't even show up in publication?
Apparently, they find the games to be equally strong (but in different areas), does that mean that neither game would get the EC?
REMEMBER! The first patch for Ghost Recon is due out today! Keep checking
Ghostrecon.com for it. While you're waiting, check out
the expansion pack screenshot gallery.
Serious Palm games
Yes, you can get Serious Sam
and Grand Theft Auto for your Palm Pilot.
I tried Serious Sam and I must say, it's pretty darn good for the limitations of the hardware. Only problem is, these programs are HUGE! The DEMO was 1.5 megs!
The company, Global Star Software, actually
makes some pretty cool products.
The Thing for Xbox
Now this is a really interesting item due out for Xbox: The Thing. Yes, John Carpenter's
The Thing. Twenty years after it was first released (and scared the crap out of me and traumatized me for life), it's coming to a gaming console near you.
If you've never seen the movie, you should ... >=)
Napster news
Marilyn Hall Patel, the district court judge in the Napster case, has been having some very subversive thoughts recently,
we learn from case transcripts unsealed this week.
On January 16, the New York Times reports, Patel questioned if the record companies copyright extended to digital
distribution of music, and granted Napster leave to explore whether the labels were colluding to prevent it licensing music
for online distribution.
I'm not sure what to make of it. It's not likely to re-open filesharing as we loved it, so fucked if I care much about it.

Ghost Recon patch #1 due out Feb. 1. Details here.
New Fujis
Fuji has announced new cameras based on their new SuperCCD III technology: the
S2, the successor to their S1 digital SLR,
and the S602, a beefed-up version of their Finepix 6900.
Both look like pretty fine pieces of kit, I'm sure I wouldn't be disappointed to have either. The big news with the S2 is a shift to a N/F80 body-based design, which allows the use
of higher-end Nikkor lenses (such as AF-S). The big news with the S602 is CompactFlash/Microdrive compatibility.
Oh yeah, they also announced the
F601, the successor to the Finepix 6800, but
I don't like the cigarette-pack lookin' cameras.
New Plam
Well Palm has officially announed its latest PDA, the i705. It's basically a new-generation Palm
with built-in wireless Internet. Yawn. The Palm VII was a flop, didn't they learn? You can get shitty Internet access to your email from your cell phone ... a "better PDA" is
going to have to set itself apart in other features ...
Discuss here.
Here's another funky wireless PDA that may end up seeing light of day, the
Pogo.

Winter in Hawaii
Winter here is marked by ... RAIN. And lots of it lately.
This is the brightest rainbow I've seen in a while. This one was in Nuuanu valley last Sunday.
Incriminati
Here's an amusing game called Incriminati
that has you stashing the naughty stuff before your parents come home. Pretty simple gameplay but
classic concept. From Gspot.
Newsy
Spank it
This is a really inane little application that has you spanking a monkey

high-profile coach firing in a week.

Brainbuster of the month
Damn, I've run out of time for a full post, so I'm going to post something that could keep you busy all day.
It's a brain puzzle called Theseus and the Minotaur. It's
basically a maze puzzle that follows certain rules. It's quite tough. I solved it in about 40-50 tries, in about four hours. Let me
know if you want the solution. If that one's too hard, try this one.
Both courtesy of Lankus.
