So it's the day after Valentine's day and you forgot to do something nice for your S.O. You're in the doghouse. What to do? Try the Acme Candy Heart Generator. Guaranteed to work. Submitted by Ed.

Also if you're stuck for some lovey-dovey fonts while making that card? Try these Cute and Romantic fonts. There's a popup, but I guess it's the price you pay for free fonts. While you're at it, here's another pretty cool free font site.

Protecting it's integrity

Here's a page by people after my own heart. The Apostrophe Protection Society seeks to prevent the most heinous misuses of that little fleck of ink. God I hate apostrophe abuse.

Yobotroller

Truth in advertising. Playstation 2 controllers by Yobo.

Mario faux pas

I've been a bit critical of Mario Lemieux's decisions to sit out games while the Pens struggle. This article talks about why he did it, and I pretty much agree with its conclusions.

Filter fun

Filter study

Here's a page from Lankus: this guy takes common oil filters and cuts them up, then comments on the relative merits of their designs. But we always new the Fram orange filters sucked, right?

We've been getting a lot of Sircam-infected emails lately. It seems to have come from a reader's Web cache, so be on the lookout for suspicious email, and remember, don't open those attachments or you deserve every bit of pain you get.

Digital capture revolution

X3 technology

Foveon, a company that has been doing professional digital imaging for a bit, has announced an entirely new image capture technology that might just revolutionize the digital camera world. Foveon's X3 sensor is a new design that can sense one color (R, G, or B) at EACH SENSING SITE on the sensor. This is different from traditional Bayer-pattern sensors, which can only sense ONE color at each site. Because of this, while a normal sensor has to use interpolation to "fill in the gaps" in the sensed colors, the X3 sensor does not need to and can achieve much higher resolutions on the same size chip. In layman's terms? A 3 megapixel X3 sensor captures as much information as if the sensor were 12-16 megapixels!

Sigma DS9

Sigma is the first customer for the X3 chip, and their new digital SLR is slated to be announced at PMA in two weeks. X3 is truly exciting stuff, and if it lives up to expectations, it WILL become the standard, and probably very quickly.
