Gummi fun
In a massive coup, Greggo actually sent me a piece of news I never posted!
Just what you need for that boring afternoon: Gummi Bear Sex.
The photos are absolutely horrible, but they get credit for content.
Hockey news
And the injuries keep mounting:
RR is back
An alert reader found that Resellerratings is back up.
Word is, it's in some disrepair, but I haven't used it lately so I can't rightly say. Maybe Internet.com knuckled into the
public pressure? Either way it's better up than down.

Running off to Montreal tonight to see, what else, a hockey game, be back on Monday. Now where is my ride?

Sim Golf
In an interesting collaboration with Sid Meier, Maxis has brought to market a game called
SimGolf, which allows players to virtually design and run a golf course.
It gets high marks from the Squab, but the part that worries me is distributor EA's new patch/support system. It requires you to register the game to receive patches.
Screw that!
NHL news
Some interesting items from the hockey world:
Egg imaging
Is that a weird-looking contraption or what? It's a lens from Egg Solutions,
which allows a camera to take single-frame 360-degree images. Cool idea, but the site is slow as shit!
Globe lights
Here's an interesting page from Lankus: it's a shot of the earth at night from space.
It's very interesting to see where the lights are. Hawaii is clearly visible in the middle of the pacific.

We're closing down the forums due to disuse and increasing intrusion of nag notices by Network54. If you're bummed,
let me know and I may look into replacing them with better software. If not, faaahk 'um!
Son of a Bit
Well for the first time in my life I went out and bought a Honda ... an S2000 Tomy Bit Char-G (above, with
cream charger for scale).
If you've never heard of or seen one, it's a fully functional remote controlled car about the size of a
Hotwheels car! It's something else, really. I'll be doing a writeup someday soon ... here are a couple of sites to peruse in the meantime:

PMA news
Well, PMA has been going on for a couple of days, and while the main bombshells were
Nikon's D100,
Canon's D60,
Fuji's S2 and
Sigma's Foveon-powered
SD9, there are other interesting announcements being made:
Keep updated on PMA here and
here.
Modern art
This is a site for European model Eva Herzigova. While that in itself is uninteresting,
it has some really top-notch, artsy, interactive Flash work on it that is definitely worth a once-over. There are even a few
surprise endings thrown in there, too. Submitted by Jui.
Murdering the language
Here's an interesting site (one of many, according to Penfold) that illustrates the language barrier quite well by
translating an English page into a foreign tongue with an online translator, then translates it back to English.
It's amazing how mangled things become. Check it out here.
Photoshop 7.0
Adobe has announced Photoshop 7.0. And I haven't even
um, acquired 6.0 yet. Here's a list of new features.
Chang rice
Well this has been all around the Web, but hey, I'll post it too ... here's a page of examples of
about the cheapest-ass rice you'll ever see. Submitted by Jui.
Along the same lines: a Z06 Hyundai. Scroll down a bit for the images.
Canda takes gold
This is pretty darn old news by now, but I'm posting it so I can do my breakdown of the game.
As you know, Team Canada defeated Team USA for the gold medal in the 2002 Winter games
on Sunday. Here's are the significant factors I think led to that outcome:
- Talent pool -- First and foremost, Canda had by far the deeper team in terms of outright talent. Nowhere did this hurt the US
more than in goal, where Marty Brodeur had a great game as he is capable of doing on a regular basis, while Mike Richter had to
elevate his game in order to keep the US in the tourney.
- US defense selection -- The US team was selected to compete in an international tournament first and foremost,
so they picked mostly skill defensemen, not big bruisers. This in mind, it's not surprising that they dispatched the European teams, whose forwards aren't as
big and powerful as North American forwards, while they struggled against Canada. This was probably the best
decision, given that the US does not have many defensemen that are a
combination of both bone-crushing defense and timely offense (ala Chris Pronger and Rob Blake).
- Fatigue factor -- Team Canada had come off a game with Belarus that was by all measures an easy one, while
Team US played an inspired, emotional game against Team Russia, albeit mostly in the third period. That seemed to take
a toll on the US's "hero factor" in the Canada game.
- Tkachuk's injury -- Of the US's top forwards, only a few truly make their living getting their noses
dirty in front of the net. Of these, it seems Keith Tkachuk is one of the best at
getting the those ugly goals from down low (a talent he had displayed earlier in the tournament).
Canada's game is geared toward hard checking and defensive logjams,
which tended to limit the effectiveness of snipers like Brett Hull who is more used to eluding than grinding. Thus, Tkachuk's
injury and subsequent inability to play weighed heavily on the team's offensive output.
Altogether, the US's margin of error was cut down to almost nothing, and the game ended in a Canadian victory. All in all, it
was an extremely enjoyable tournament, and the team that won desered it.
Squab does Geforce 4 w/ P3
Here's an article some of you will find useful -- the Squab does a little breakdown of
Geforce 4 performance
with older processors like P3's. It's to help you make up your mind if it's worth going with the latest-and-greatest, versus
older stuff like Geforce 3's.
