GF3 bench
Well no sooner have the GeForce 3's hit the street, but benchmarks are coming out that feature some of the
raw graphics horsepower this car has to offer. Vulpine, a German company,
is developing an impressive-looking game engine and have released a demo/benchmark based on it.
Ho convention
CALCUTTA (Reuters) -- Twenty-five thousand Indian prostitutes will gather in a Calcutta football stadium on
Saturday to demand official recognition for their profession.
The women will also take part in music and dance programs to display their talents in these arts at the three-day
Millennium Milan Mela (Gathering of the Millennium).
Wait a minute, DISPLAY THEIR TALENTS???

From the Cool Weapons dept.
Well the US military is developing a new non-lethal area-denial weapon that is being dubbed the "pain beam" -- which uses
microwaves to cause a burning sensation on the skin. Check the CNN bit here.
Goin' to Pluto
WASHINGTON -- NASA is caught between politics and Pluto.
The decision to kill NASA's Pluto-Kuiper Belt mission earlier this week has been reversed. The space agency
is reactivating a call for proposals to keep alive the option of a spacecraft streaking to Pluto before 2020.

Napster to Block Songs
Napster, trying to save its ass, is set to block songs by title. Read about it here.
I really really doubt that this is going to work. I mean, what if you just change the title of the song?
24 Glorious Inches
Ooooh, I wish I had one of these. A 24" LCD monitor.

what an evil concept.
Nap hard
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) -- A crucial court hearing on the future of
Napster Inc. ended Friday, with the judge saying she would begin
drafting an injunction, which could shut the popular song-swap service
down for good over the issue of copyright infringement.
Penfold doesn't think the injunction will come down before Monday, so
this weekend .... NAPSTER LIKE THE WIND, MY CHILDREN! NOW!!!

Shakespeare's shake
News of Shakespeare's possible budtoking is spreading around the 'Net like
wildfire. Here's the Iwon/Reuters bit
and here's Salon's writeup.
Hmm maybe there's a reason he is called SHAKEspeare.
As a side note, it's interesting to see what drug each news service chooses
to play up in their stories.
Well Tech Report has a roundup of
cool cartoons (?) created with
this cartoon maker.
Go play with it, maybe we could make a contest out of it later,
Plamphone
If you own a Palm or have used one before, you probably think

We've know that the Duron was a solid chip, but I've always wondered what was faster, a cheap Duron or a P3. Find out here.

Microsoft to make it?
Examination of the documentation of the Microsoft trial surely leads any reasonable person to the conclusion that
Microsoft is guilty as hell: of setting out to destroy Netscape, of threatening Apple until it toed the line, of
ruling the PC OEMs with a rod of iron, and of much else. But similar examination of the appeals court proceedings
of the past two days leaves one with the firm belief that Microsoft is going to get off.

Pop Ups be Gone
I know Raul was ranting about pop up ads before. So from our friends who brought us Don't Panic comes the Pop-up Stopper.
I have it installed and it works pretty well, maybe be even too well. If you click on a link that launches another window, this software will block it from opening. You have to hold down the ctrl or the shift to get it to launch. Trust me, it's worth it to not having those annoying pop up ads. Stolen from our friends at Little White Dog.
Actual Numbers
Unlike the "previews" that some sites are passing out about the new geforce3, here are some actual benchmarks. Be warned, it's in Italian.
Dumping the Camera
This was brilliant of this guy. Here's something not to do next time you get caught speeding.
Farmsex.com
Travelers planning a trip to Africa should take note: Leave your dog at home. For some unknown reason, the nation is seeing a bizarre increase in reported cases of bestiality. A man in Livingstone, Zambia, was recently found with his pants down, having sex with a dog in the early morning. A worker at a learning institution was discovered to be carnally involved with a pig. And a current in flagrante delicto situation finds a 25-year-old man enjoying the coital pleasures of a dog in a toilet of Lusaka's Misisi Compound.

Pronger out for season
And just as quickly as it started again, it was over. St. Louis Blues' star defenseman and team captian Chris Pronger
was just two games back from knee surgery when he was hit by a flying puck that
broke his forearm. Pronger
is out for the rest of the regular season but is expected to be healthy for the postseason. Check
here for a roundup of the
rest of the happenings in hockey yesterday.
Why did Netscape die?
By the District Court's (that's Judge Jackson's) own admission, Netscape distributed 160 million copies of Netscape Navigator in
1998, thereby saturating a marketplace of only 100 million Internet users, Microsoft appeals lawyer Richard
Urowsky claimed during arguments before the appellate bench in Washington Monday.
Furthermore, between 1996 and 1998 Netscape's share of dedicated Netizens (its 'installed base') swelled from a
healthy 15 million to a huge 33 million, Urowsky pointed out.
So how can it be that Internet Explorer is far and away the most popular browser today? That's simple;
right-thinking people just like it better.
As one of the Netscape-to-IE convertees, I agree that Netscape just became poor, unstable bloatware. However,
IE is now approaching a similar status, so the browser war could potentially heat up again if Netscape (AOL) plays
its cards right.

Scat!
Leave it up to Stileproject to have something as conceptually gross, but amusing thing.
Scatman is a little Flash game based on the old
favorite Pacman, but the little Pacdude eats, well ... scat, and is chased by stragely familiar black-clothes-wearing
goth-type girls.
Also from Stile: Stile's answer to Alex Chiu's immortality rings!
RIAA: fuck you
So the RIAA has been bringing out new info that supposedly proves that Napster cut
into their business. But I have a better explanation for why sales are down: THE POP CRAP GROUPS THE MUSIC INDUSTRY
IS TRYING TO PUSH SUCK ROYAL SHIT! Get a fucking clue, RIAA. As time goes on, new pop shit makes MC Hammer sound
like a genius.
But fuck all that. The RIAA is full of shit anyway with those figures, which only
represent CD SINGLE sales. Tell me,
when's the last time a single came out that couldn't be heard TEN TIMES A DAMN HOUR ON EVERY DAMN RADIO STATION IN THE
FREAKING NATION? Don't believe the hype, intrepid readers. All this is about for the RIAA, and all it has ever been about,
is making sure they line their pockets with as much money as possible. Concern for artists? Gimme a break.
RIAA: fuck you again
With the future of music-swapping site Napster looking grim, on Friday a tiny Nashville-based startup began
touting an even more controversial milieu for peer-to-peer file sharing: random, unprotected hard drives on the
Internet.
I am personally offended that the RIAA, through destruction of safer alternatives, is supporting such dangerous
technologies.

Buss drivers
Crowthorne, Berkshire, United Kingdom: Marijuana appears to have less adverse impact on driving ability than does
alcohol, according to findings from a recent study by the U.K'.s Transport Research Laboratory (TRL). The results
replicate earlier findings recorded in the U.S., Australia and elsewhere indicating that marijuana intoxication
plays a relatively insignificant role in vehicular accidents.
Could be due to the fact that most stoners drive 10 mph below the speed limit but think they are speeding.
