I have returned.

This is a totally sweet Russian site with a Flash do-it-yourself forensic (police) sketch builder. It is VERY full-featured and powerful. Give it a shot and if anyone would care to do a self-portrait and send it in, I'll set up a page to host them.

The squids over at Firingsquid have done a writeup on the LAN Gear ES complete gaming system, which is a complete 2+Ghz P4 system housed in a slim case designed to be toted around easily to LAN parties.

As is usually the case around the trade dealine, the NHL is abuzz with various trades that will help teams (or hurt them) in the leadup to the playoffs:

• Dallas trades star forward Joe Nieuwendyk and forward Jamie Langenbrunner to New Jersey for center Jason Arnott and winger Randy McKay.
• "The Russian Rocket" Florida Panthers' Pavel Bure, last season's leading goal scorer, was traded to the NY Rangers for basically a song.
• Pittsburgh Penguins' hard-hitting defenseman Darius Kasparaitis was traded to Colorado for forward Ville Niemenen and defenseman Rick Berry. This is the Avs' now-traditional "deadline blockbuster" -- we'll see how Kaspar works with the Colorado system.
• Old-as-the-hills setup-man Adam Oates was dealt by Washington to Philadelphia for goalie prospect Maxime Oullet, as well as THREE picks in the 2002 entry draft. That's kind of a big price to pay for the 39-year-old center, but with the recent decimation of the Flyers' depth at center (injuries to Jeremy Roenick and Keith Primeau), perhaps it was a deal just in the nick of time.
• Atlanta Thrashers' veteran center "Chicken Parm" Ray Ferraro was traded to the St. Louis Blues for a draft pick, helping shore up the depth problems caused by injuries to important St. Louis forwards.
• This is kind of a low-key trade but everyone is talking about it, as it could help shape the future of the two teams involved: The Rangers traded forward Mike York -- in the middle of a breakout season -- to the Edmonton oilers for defenseman Tom Poti and forward Rem Murray.

I'm pretty sure this is a legitimate clip: it's a sequence featuring Dante and Randall ("Clerks") discussing the Flying Car. Maybe this is a DVD extra on some disc, anyone know? Well the best free antivirus suite, CAI's Innoculate IT, has recently gone pay, some may be looking for a new free AV solution. Try Antivir Personal Edition, which seems to work fairly well. I did an informal test on a couple of email worms that ended up in my mailbox and it seems to catch 'em fine ... and the company seems to keep up with updates fairly well.

Video game fame

FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- Scott Safran -- who would now be 35 years old -- scored a world record 41,336,440 points on Asteroids at the All-American Billiard Company in Newtown, Pennsylvania on November 13, 1982. At that time, his accomplishment was recognized as the world record by both Atari Games and Twin Galaxies. Safran's score remains the longest standing world record to be held on a major video game title.

Seems that the demise of Resellerratings.com was a bit premature. It's back, one of the most useful sites for online shopping, along with Pricewatch.com.
