Kema Azunma always has technology on his mind ...
A more elegant Atari solution?
Well the other guy's portable Atari from scratch was a feat
of brute tweakery, but this solution is far more elegant:
an Atari 2600 emulator for PocketPC. Although you
can't just plug a cartridge in like you can with the true portable ...
Flame-ish

Now there's Skirtman (above). Just check it out.
The madness never ends
Those Japanese, this time they've come up with a robot designed to have human-like
expressions and speech. The company says it has the "underlying aim of improving human-machine interface through introducing robots into our everyday lives."
Hmm sounds familiar ... "human-cyborg relations" ...
Strawberry's not here!
TAMPA, Fla. (Reuters) -- Former baseball star Darryl Strawberry was still missing on Saturday, a day after police
issued an arrest warrant following his disappearance from a drug treatment center, a Tampa police spokesman said.
Darryl, I hope you have skipped the country, because there is just no place for you in America anymore.

FRIDAY, 3/30/2001, 6:58pm HST by Laura The "Female Friday" Edition
Sigh, like Penfold doesn't make me slave over his legal work enough as it is, now he's demanding I do his content too. Such a slacker.
Note to Jui: We've worked way too hard...I think the guys might have to do a lot of shoe shopping with us in San Francisco to make up for it. :)

Poor guys, they're just so clueless about women. If you want to make a woman happy, follow this very simple points system. See, women do come with instructions.

UH Men Win at the Pauley
Eyal Zimet
In a frenetic end to 18 years of frustration, the University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team rallied
for a 25-30, 30-27, 23-30, 30-23, 15-13 victory over UCLA last night in Los Angeles.
The second-ranked Warriors, who had long played Wile E. Coyote to UCLA's Roadrunner,
beat the No. 3 Bruins for the first time in Pauley Pavilion since Feb. 13, 1983. At the time, Dave
Shoji, now the Wahine coach, was the Warriors' head coach.

Linksys firmware 1.38.2
Having problems with DHCP acquisition on your Linksys BEFSR11 (1-port) or BEFSR41 (4-port) Cable/DSL router? Most
of them were solved in the current 1.37 firmware release available through the Linksys
website. However,
those that disconnect and reconnect computers often may still have problems. Version 1.38.2, which is only available
through contacting Linksys technical support, supposedly fixes these problems as well. It is now available in our
files section.
Early indications are that it does indeed solve the problem I was having with my BEFSR11 ... I am fairly sure the BEFSR11 and BEFSR41
use the same firmware, but BEFSR41 users should download a copy of the official 1.37
firmware and be ready to re-flash just in case.

No Bush!
Jackie Sumell's art project, she says, is less about art than about social intervention. An MFA student at the San

505 display sucks?
Well the Wall Street Journal posted up an article about the latest offerings from Palm and Handspring,
but disses the screen on the Palm M505, which may have been dimmed down to conserve battery life.
That's a sore disappointment, considering how the IIIc had a brilliant screen AND long battery life.
To be honest, a little thinness would be well sacrificed for decent batteries. Check out the article

This is a little stroke of genius. Dancing Paul is an inane yet

Eating Bernard
BEIJING (Reuters) -- The Chinese have taken a liking to a revered symbol of Switzerland -- the St. Bernard dog -- but
the Swiss are not flattered.
Gentle giants famed for rescuing people in the Alpine snows of Europe, the St. Bernard's size and docile nature have
become a major selling point in China, where dog meat has long been a popular delicacy known as "fragrant meat."
And I always thought you wanted a medium-sized dog.

Robotech memories
Well someone last night brought up the name "Lancer" and it immediately brought back memories of elementary school days. In its
slot after "Star Blazers" and later "Voltron," Robotech was the highlight of the morning. Anyway I dug around for some sites, and
this one is one of the better ones. Really brings back all the things that made
the show so engrossing.
Some of the art also brings back memories of Battletech -- with its Warhammers, Shadowhawks, Marauders and Riflemen. Hehe, okay so I
was a dork.

What is IC3?
So if you're a FoodTV viewer, undoubtedly you've seen the ads for "IC3" -- some Iron Chef extravaganza. Well, I dug around
and found out what it is -- an Iron Chef blast featuring the 2000th challenge on June 1 and the 2001 special -- Flay vs. Morimoto
part 2 -- on June 3. I don't want to link to the articles on them because they contain spoilers (I had to quickly scroll back
up the page so I didn't see them!) Anyway if you don't care about suspense, you can find links to the articles at the top of the
by-date episode listing here at Ironchef.com.
RIAA watching you? Nah.
The recording industry is watching you. Or so the most recent media reports would have you believe. As the Napster wars keep
escalating, the recording industry is redoubling its efforts in the hunt for new and improved ways to keep its music out of your
shared databases. The newest tactic is surveillance. Increasingly, the recording industry is watching individual users on any
given peer-to-peer (P2P) network, using programs like Copyright Agent and Media Tracker to discern who is downloading what and
when.
Just practice safe computing with a decent firewall, and you're most of the way there.

Gettin' head

3d marked
Well if the strangest thing didn't happen the other night. 3dMark 2001, the bane of my Sunday morning, decided to work.
All my poor system could muster was 2664 3dMarks at 1024x768/32-bit w/DXTC textures, but I suppose I shouldn't expect
too much with a benchmark that is meant to showcase Pentium 4's with GeForce 3's. I'll come up with some screenshots later.
Is it just me, or does the bump-mapping test look like a floating doodoo?
Nap activism?
Napster is calling on its users to march on Washington, DC and protest about the way the company feels it has been treated.
Tempting users with a free concert and the opportunity to hear Napster founder Shawn Fanning talk about programming, Napster
hopes enough punters will show in the US capital on 3 April that legislators will back file sharing as a legitimate means of
distributing music.

Well the Oscars (reportedly) sucked, it's damn hot, and there just isn't a whole lot of cool stuff to post right now.
PCs on wheels
Well conceptually, these things are pretty cool -- PCs contained in model car bodies.
They've got Nascar versions and even a Shelby Cobra version. But in practice, these are pretty weak PCs out of the box, and
the small casings will eventually restrict the upgrade path. Just can't have your cake and eat it too ...
Remote reboot
For those of you too lazy to reach over and reboot your machine, get one of these remote reboot-restart kits.
Actually, I think the best use is for those standing-state Windows crashes that you notice happening across the room. You can reboot your

Such a good race today. My favorites, DJ and Rusty, didn't do too well, but who cares...two of the cutest drivers in racing got into a heated spinning battle after the race on pit row. Extreme firepower
This is something kinda space-agey, and really cool. Metalstorm, Ltd. is developing
a 100% electronic gun. That means no moving parts except the bullets, no contentional gunpowder to burn and get dirty, no shells
to extract, and no jamming. The Metalstorm site talks mainly about the application
of the technology, but this site -- O'dwyer Smartgun -- talks more about
the technology and has video of actual firings. Above, apparently, is a multi-barrel (I believe 36-barrel) version of the weapon.
With each barrel capable of firing rates of 60,000 rounds per minute, the gun shown effectively fires at a rate of
over 1 million rounds per minute.
Maddening Madonion
Well I tried all morning, but I just could not get 3dMark2001 to run on my machine. I updated my drivers to the latest
Creative release (6.50), reinstalled DirectX 8, cleaned up my hard drive, shut off all kinds of crap in my system tray.
I tried almost everything but the damn program won't stop crashing either before or during the first benchmark test. If
I try to run the demo, it puts the monitor to "sleep". Have any of you readers successfully run 3dMark2K1?
If so, let me know. Next step for me is to put
in a newer reference driver, probably 10.80 or so. But it seems that the 6.50's should work, according to Madonion's
tech forums.
Pax runflat
Gratuitously ripped from ZZZ: The Pax System
