More artsy oddness
This site is kind of in the same vein as Otogai World, check out
Quick Honey, another very odd art site. Be sure to check out
the Soap Machine and this.
Pens Pitt-iful again
What happened to the Pens? No one knows. They lost 5-0 today and didn't even put up a fight.
If the Pens get eliminated in another game like this one, Jagr will be gone next year, 100% guaranteed. Unless he decides to work
for aloha ...
Unless something miraculous happens very soon, it's all but over for Pitt's Cup hopes. It's really looking like a
Col-NJ final.
Truck tracks
That big ol' honking truck a little too wussy for you? Put tracks on it.
Interfering with common sense
A couple of weeks ago computer engineer Keith Henson was found guilty in California of a criminal act related to posts he made
in the newsgroup alt.religion.scientology, which contained obviously comical (all right, Sophomoric) references to targeting
Scientologists with a nuclear missile.
The jury convicted him of interfering with a religion -- likely due to his habit of picketing near the cult's properties --
but failed to reach a decision on two other patently idiotic charges brought by Deputy District Attorney Robert Schwarz, who,
it is claimed, is either a Scientology dupe himself, or on old Elron's posthumous payroll.
This is just stupid.

Oh, you thought all the content was over with tonight. Don't forget, party tommorrow night.
Got the Bose
I broke down today and bought the Bose noise reduction headphones. Works surprisingly well. Not cheap though, $300 plus tax.
It feels kinda weird using the headsets, it does cancel the noise but it makes you feel a little strange, not sure how to describe it. I suspect you just have to get used to it.

I'd be sobbing too

Avs close in on series win
Although I hesitate to make any proclamation like the one above, 3-1 in most cases is a near-stranglehold on a series.
Anyway, after surrendering a 3-0 lead in regulation, the Colorado Avalanche eked out a win in OT
against the St. Louis Blues earlier today at Savvis center. The Iwon bit is here.
Earlier in the game,
Roman Turek was pulled briefly by coach Joel Quenneville after giving up 3 goals in a 1:18 span, above.
"PH" sucks
From Salon, a Salon-esque article that basically says "Pearl Harbor" sucks.
All I have to say is, the name Jerry Bruckheimer is associated with this film. There is absolutely no chance it won't suck.
Bruckheimer wouldn't know good cinema if it bit him in the ass ("Gone in 60 Seconds," anyone?).
Yomigaeru William Shatner's career!
The introduction of Enterprise was not the only Star Trek-related news in UPN's announcement of its 2001-2002 primetime schedule today. William Shatner (Captain James T. Kirk) will host
two one-hour specials featuring a culinary competition based on an international franchise, plus other shows produced by and
starring Star Trek veterans have been added to the network's lineup.
This yesterday from Tef.

A couple of questions come to mind:
- What does it mean by an "Americanized version" of the Iron Chef? Will the real Iron Chefs even show up?
- Will Captain Kirk ruin the whole thing? You know how Americans are notorious for on "not getting" IC.
Choosing Bill Shatner as an MC borders on "not getting it."
Bush whacked
AUSTIN, Texas -— President Bush's 19-year-old daughter Jenna pleaded no contest Wednesday to a charge of being
a minor in possession of alcohol, and must attend alcohol awareness classes.
Looks like the fairer Bush is in some trouble. Too bad she wasn't a nobody, then she could have busted out a high-powered
lawyer and probably got off scot-free.

Palm in dire straits?
Well here's a Register article on Palm's big financial problems.
Penfold and I were discussing this just recently. Palm has no one to blame but themselves for their money problems. In this iteration
of PDAs, they have failed to bring anything to market that is really worth having over an older Palm. And their new "replacements" for the older
Palm series aren't even as good as the old models. To be fair, Handspring has also not really brought any worthwhile Visors to market except,
possibly, for the Edge. In fact no PalmOS manufacturer has come out with anything worthile. Handera (TRG) comes closest with its 330 model,
but without a color screen, I just wouldn't rush out to buy one. And Palm's picking SD expansion technology over Compact Flash ... that was
another major blunder. But we'll leave it at that.
Deja Vu on Anandtech
Anandtech community member Dennilfloss has dramatically confessed to the murder of another member, single mother
Nowheremom, on the tech site's forum.
...
The twist is that Dennilfloss was in fact Nowheremom. In his confession, he said the creation of a female alter-ego
started as a joke because he wanted to see what it would be like for a woman to post on the forums. Nowheremom made her
first appearance in October 1999. But it all started getting out of hand when he started getting approaches from other
men on the forum, so he created a relationship with Nowheremom and himself.
I could swear I heard the exact same story somewhere else before, just involving different people.

Another kind of learning
Scottish police have been forced to rethink an anti-drugs campaign after discovering they were sending kids to a porn Web site.
Tayside Police had handed out thousands of leaflets to children in primary and secondary schools in the area, recommending they

And they only have themselves to blame.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Arthur Tucker was burned during a one-hour treatment for a swollen prostate with a microwave device called the Prostatron.

Happy Hump Day
Roboforge
I've always had a soft spot for games like these since the days of Core Wars and
Omega -- games in which you write a program either to do
battle itself or to control a combat unit. Once the action starts, you can't do anything but sit back and see how well you did.
Anyway Roboforge is the latest game in that vein. LWD has a review of the beta
here.
In high school I wrote a game called ARENA, in which you programmed a little ship (a pixel on the screen) to do battle with another
shit, also run by a program.
I even implemented a shortened version of Redcode (the Core Wars language) for it.
*wistful sigh* The days when I coded for fun ... hey wait a minute, maybe things actually don't change!
Nice deke!
No, it's not a vulgar comment. But what exactly is a deke, or a head deke, stick deke, or shoulder deke for that matter?
What does 'freeze the puck' refer to? Well wonder no more. Here's a pretty accessible hockey glossary
for your perusal. Read it through once and you'll have a pretty good grasp of the game.
Oh yeah and for Luzsyd: Be sure to check the puck entry.
Let the Force guide your census answer
The Australian Bureau of Statistics has issued a further warning to Star Wars fans intent on marking "Jedi" as their religion in
the upcoming census.
The second warning was prompted following concerns about an e-mail circulating widely in Australia which urges readers to
identify their religion as "Jedi" in a national census to be held on August 7.

Kaspar out
Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Darius Kasparaitis is
out indefinitely with broken bones in his foot.
I believe the injury came when he went down to block a shot and took a puck off the ankle area. They way they're talking about it,
it doesn't seem that major of an injury, but either way, Pitt is out a man where they are already a little soft ...
TUESDAY, 5/15/2001, 6:58pm HST by Penfold The "Johnny Bravo" Edition
Ever watch Johnny Bravo? Just saw an episode with an Animal Farm reference. It's the kind of joke where if you get it, it's super funny, if you don't, it doesn't make any sense.
Top of the news
Now with the important news for today, Pitt beats NJ 4-2. Pitt Goalie Johan Hedberg wasn't looking too sharp in the first period when NJ went up 2-0,
but then, who else but Mario, busts out with two critical assists to rally Pitt to victory. Check the story here.

Hello ladies ...
I've seen this around the Web in several places, and maybe you have too. But since someone officially submitted it,
I'll post it. Have a look at the Asian Prince.
Funny thing is, I've seen another page with another equally weird looking SE Asian guy, with very similar text. This one is much
more comprehensive though. Be sure to listen to his "bad hair day freestyle" in the Music section and his "vibrating pen hand" in
the Bad Boy Life section.
This Asian Prince dude(?) can also be found under classification II, number 14 on Mullets Galore.

Scored Serious Sam
Well in keeping with my strong support for reasonably-priced software, I picked up Serious Sam from CompUSA for a mere
$20 -- an unheard-of price for a new game that is receiving so much critical acclaim. To put it into a few words, the
game is stunning. The graphics are
first-rate
and the framerates are surprisingly smooth. And it is quite fun for the
itchy-trigger-fingered among us. I more or less concur with the Firingsquid review here.

Jesus wins the draw ...
Hockey is a Christ-sanctioned sport, evidently. Have a look at Catholic Supply's Jesus sports figurines.
Image how much damage Jesus could do on the ice. He doesn't even need pads or skates for that matter. He could probably deliver
crushing bodychecks without touching anyone, and take shots from behind his own net and bank them in off the half boards. And look at that,
he's the third man in the faceoff circle, but no ref is going to throw him out!
Base note
Tef sniffed this one out: Apparently, the All Your Base craze has gotten at least one kid in
