Bring back the 'Bows
So the UH Warriors got killed in battle ... again. It was just supreme overconfidence, maybe even arrogance, on the part of
Hugh Yoshida, June Jones and Co. to have the public fund a complete makeover of the UH football team when no one, Jones included,
really knew what kind of team he had on his hands. First, why does a team that made the biggest turnaround in NCAA history
and captured the WAC crown last season need to be redefined? And second, if UH was still the 'Bows, people would have nothing to fixate
on and would be forced to acknowledge that yes, this is a green team that just needs to pay its dues and build from there.
Instead, this name-game has become a public-relations debacle.
The stupidest part of all? The big hoo-ha over the UH symbol was that it was a misappropriation of the image of
the Hawaiian warrior. So what do these braniacs do? Dump the part of the name that was considered nonoffensive
-- the rainbow -- and keep the part that was at the crux of the entire controversy. Well okay, maybe the players felt it was offensive
to be associated with the gay pride movement, but what better way to show someone up who calls you a faggot than to kick some ass
on the field and send 'em packin? They aren't doing much of that this year.
Oh well at least the volleyball Wahine seem to be kicking ass. Speaking of which, is it just me, or is Lily Kahumoku just a hottie? Bad Raul! Bad, bad Raul!
(I was just checking to see if you read this far, honest!)
If you haven't already tried Samurai Brand Waffle Ice Cream, then head on down
to your local 7-Eleven and give it a shot. It's only a buck. Think Nutter Butter with ice cream filling. Um, yeah.

So, you didn't believe me that there's a guy named Gregor Fucka on the Italian national team eh?
Here ya go!

The "Election Day" Edition
Election Endorsements by Tokenasians.com
Tokenasians.com is officially endorsing Frank Fasi for mayor of Honolulu. Why, because I'd rather not vote for the lesser of two evils when
you can get right down to the evil itself.
For Board of Education, Penfold endorses anyone but the Gabbard's (ABGa).
For those of you having problems with the nhl2001 demo, check the original news post, I have a new mirror listed.

So I was hard up for graphic content today and decided to grab a few screens from an NHL2000 game. Ended up having one of the most
exciting games ever. I was down 0-3 in the first and thinking it was going to be a blowout, when Kuromoto burned Dafoe hard, then
went on to hat-trick, despite Boston scoring another goal. Hokama went on to
score the game-winner (5-4) in overtime with less than 30 seconds on the clock. Needless to say, Kuromoto was first star.
And yes, both sides were "turned up" all the way.
Hot for student
TORONTO (Reuters) --
A Canadian teacher suspended for writing love notes to a student has sparked an uproar after she was allowed to go back to the classroom.
I think the only reason I posted this article was to write that headline. But come to think of it, I've had a few teachers
I'd have been happy to get love letters from ...

Now this is a bunch of crass humor, but it does sum up nicely what a waste of brainpower these new
reality shows are. Yeah what's so fuckin' real about trying to "survive" on an island, all alone,
except for the high-tech TV production crew that follows your ass around as you eat bugs, which you do gladly so you can
win a million bucks? Or living in a house with roommates selected especially to piss you off? Actually that latter one
does seem to happen in real life sometimes ...
Now this brings new meaning to the term "blue screen of death."

In ancient Greece, men competed naked at the Olympics. At Sydney 2000, the women's water polo players are halfway there.
Maybe I better start watching water polo.

And also from Iwon ... This story about a porn star with something to say.
Maybe she's trying to prove that her brain really is her best asset.

This has got to be one of the best Web animations I have ever seen. Reportedly 3 years and 11 gigs of rendered scenes in the making,
The Killer Bean 2:The Party is about a coffee bean that's half Jackie Chan, half Chow-Yun Fat, and
all about kicking ass. This is a H-U-G-E file (11 megs for the SMALL version) but it's worth it. I've had some trouble on my machine getting it to
stream from IFILM through Windows Media Player, so I linked to this page instead. If it's not working for you, you may need to try another format or
download the "Divx ;-)" codec.
Still having problems seeing the movie? Try this link.
Now the content of this site borders on pornographic (you've been warned), but I'll be damned if Semenex
doesn't promise the holy grail of human sexuality!
"You no Fucka with me, I no Fucka with you."
So the Dream Team scrubbed the Italian team yesterday, but the real story was not how the Italianos hung with the Americanos for most of the first half.
Apparently, their center, Gregor Fucka, is proving to
be somewhat of a problem for American TV crews, who have been, so I'm told, going through great lengths to not show the back of his jersey, across which is
emblazoned in 4-inch high letters, "FUCKA". This brings up a few obvious jokes about his nephew, but all kidding aside, I really wanna see this team
do really well one day, even beat the Dream Team by some miracle, just so American networks will have to deal with broadcasting the name Fucka repeatedly
on the air.
Here's an odd little article about hanging an elephant.
It's kind of interesting but tragic at the same time. I wonder if it really happened, or if it is just a well-told hoax.

Paulie is hard at work reformatting his HD, so you get to suffer with my news tonight, hehehe.

The new nVidia experimental drivers (NED) v6.27 are ready for consumption. Not sure if these are reference drivers or beta one. You can get the win95/98

First there was the Macquarium.
Now, there is the iMacquarium.
I just might have to get one of these. They take an iMac and turn it into a fully functional interactive entertainment device!
Definitely an improvement over the original design.
Here is a site that approaches the classic Mac aquarium from a DIY'er angle.
You UHUNIX users out there can take advantage of this Web implementation of
an e-mail client. It's stupid because I had to hear about this link from Dino who lives on
the Big Island. Ka Leo didn't even get notified, and somehow I doubt that many
Manoa campus students know about it. Why implement something and don't announce it? SOP at UHM, I guess.
Know what that is? It's an angled Autococker ASA.
It takes a tweaker to know that. But it takes a special kind of tweaker to
look at one and think, 'Ooooh!'
I'm one of them.

TUESDAY, 9/19/2000, 11:19am HST by Penfold The "Dammit, I Have to Work 32 Hours this Week" Edition
Since I'm on this computer love-in now that my box is running again, some quick hardware posts. This is a ultra/66 RAID setup by adaptec.
So what's the big deal you ask? This RAID setup, unlike most other IDE setups, will do RAID5, striping and fault tolerance. Downside is you need at least 3 HDs.
Don't understand what I just said, send me an email and I'll tell you about RAIDs (got to something with my MCSE.)
Although this is a really old article, it isn't bad for the person who wants to build a mp3 player for their car. IMHO, their way is
kinda expensive and I think you'd be better off buying some cheap ass Pentium MMX system and putting that in your car so you can do DVDs too.

Come to think about it, this computer has been up about as much as our POS web host.

It's always sad when a company has to bite it that was showing so much promise. Apparently, AirStar was hit at a bad
time with a product recall and a failure of consumer confidence, and was forced to close shop. I tell you, with all the jokes about
Novas that
were going around, one exploding was a public-relations deathblow. Rumor has it AirStar was sinking big R&D dollars into an electro-mini Nova.
Which would have led to the inevitable jokes about, "it's not the size of the gun ..."
Despite the fact that the game isn't really all that tweakable, Tweak3d has put up a

I was just recently turned on to Icebox.com. This is one of the more prolific
Shockwave animation sites out there. Definitely not for the bandwidth-impaired. Check out: Mr. Wong,
some good, clean, racist, er, I mean racial humor. Damn, it's that ES336 coming back to haunt me. While you're at it, check out Stone Trek,
kind of an inane little throw-up by some independent.

Penfold has suffered a power supply failure and is in the process of replacement, so his computer is down for now. It may have wiped out the mainboard also.

Oh no. Is nothing sacred? Now this news frightens me.
Will no other, umm, overbearing corporate conglomerate step up to challenge the evil BE empire? One thing this does prove: paintball is a
bigger sport that dirtbike racing. An aside: Why the hell doesn't WARPIG have dates on their news releases?
Now I'm sure most of you have seen this but
for those of you that haven't, check it out. I swear I came up with the idea of an impeller feeding balls at the bottom of the hopper before this.
Oh well.
NVIDIA has come out with some slick new demos since the last time I checked, culminating in a fat 37MB demo of X-Isle (first thumbnail on the left).

Yeah you know you like it. Admit it. And just so you can sing along, here are the Bust-A-Groove
lyrics. There are even MP3s on this site, but you can find them on Napster too.
And finally tonight, have you ever noticed... that finding people's UHUNIX Web sites are is a lot easier with this little app, written
by a product of UH itself (who woulda known?) If you're in college or have been within the past three or four years, you'll probably find this a very useful tool. Someone once told me
that UH is where Ethernet was invented. Can anyone confirm?
