Moving office today, man being at work at 8AM on a Saturday really sucks. Pics of my new office coming soon.
Geography lesson
See if you can figure out why CNN need to go back to geography school.
With a candy filled center
Strange, but I guess you might as well exploit it and make some money from the things going on around us. Read the story here.
Jagr, Forsburg, Kariya, and Bure
Jagr is scheduled to earn $10,033,333 from the Washington Capitals this season, based on the contract he had with the Pittsburgh Penguins before they traded him during the summer.
The league's scoring champion might soon get a new long-term deal from Caps owner Ted Leonsis for more money than any NHL player has ever earned.
Four people making $10M+ per year playing hockey, not too shabby. Hit up the full story here.
Party, party, party
Looking for a college to go to? How about these, and I'd suggest avoiding these.
Also, there's actually a magazine named Roll Your Own.

Snoozin'
From Gspot: Mr. Snoozleberg is a very G-rated
flash game that is both kinda fun and kind of hard when you first try it. Dig that music.
Gooey
Anyone who has seen computers evolve from amber- and green-screened abominations to today's screamers that
bring crashes to the masses will appreciate this,
the graphical user interface timeline.
I used the an early version of Windows and chose to stick with DOS. It just had too much system overhead to be useful.
Lucky for Bill, the march of technology meant computers would eventually have resources to spare, and he could become the richest
man in the world.
Kerpal
As much as a loathe the idea of the Jerky Boys making money on prank calls,
Why You Kick My Dog has become quite a phenomenon.
Enough so that there are several flash adaptations of it .... such as
this one and
the one above.
Spike it
Ain't nothing quite like naked volleyball.

We finally get to move offices this weekend.
Air time
Enlightening the ignorant from all around
Giving you the straight dope on the September hoaxes.
The high cost
SAN DIEGO -- America's war on terrorism appears to be helping the war on drugs, at least initially, as wary smugglers from Mexico avoid the risk of shipping their drugs across the border.
Supply and demand is such the bitch. Hit up the full story here.
Starbuck's water
Seems Starbuck's charged rescue worker at the WTC site a total of $130 for water. So that was maybe 3 bottles of water.

Clownploitation
I was unaware that this was a real problem, but hey, the Internet is made for this.
Stop Clown Porn Now seeks to ... well ... stop clown pr0n.
I think ICP is high on their list.
BSODs in the wild
Here's a really cool site with pictures of BSODs and various crashes in
their natural environments.
I love it.
The Onion does Sept. 11
Thanks to Tef for bringing to my attention that The Onion
right now has some of the best news parodies I have seen them produce yet as part
of their series on the Sept. 11 attacks. A sample:
WASHINGTON, DC -- In the wake of the recent national tragedy, President Bush is urging Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, and other singers to resist the urge to record mawkish,
insipid all-star tribute ballads. "To America's recording artists, I just want to say, please, there has already been enough suffering," Bush said. "The last thing we need right
now is a soaring Barbra Streisand-Brian McKnight duet titled 'One For All.'" Reports that the FBI had confiscated several notebooks and audio tapes from Diane Warren's home
could not be confirmed as of press time.
Link again: here.
A little bull
Using lasers and a very steady hand (rimshot), Japanese researchers created
the world's smallest sculpture, a bull the size of a red blood cell.
They are hoping to find applications in medicine and computing for this technology.
Too much time on one's hands
Also from Tef .... women: so you want to be a stripper? men: ever wonder why some strippers seem
"better" at what they do that others (not that I would know anything about that)? Well here's a page by Web pr0nstar
Kiko Wu (read: pr0n-ish page, not for work) about the business of stripping. Here's another,
even more explicit page by the same author on building a BJ trainer. Now we know what Tef does with all his time.

Vote dammit.
Gannett=greed
While normally a throw away section of the HA, for once it had something worth looking at. (What, you thought it wasn't going to be hockey related?)
BTW, hockey starts next week, bet the women are glad to hear that.
Political nonsuch
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House press secretary scolded the host of "Politically Incorrect" Wednesday for calling some past U.S. military actions cowardly.
Why the White House would care enough to reprimand a talk show host is beyond me. Get the full story here.
Counterpoint here.
Bud munchies
BANGKOK (Reuters) -- Fancy a bowl of white plumeria flowers with deep-fried rose petals? Or perhaps a Thai tulip omelet and a milkweed salad to go?
These are just some of the delights served up at a one-day food festival organizers hope will inject even more color into Thai cuisine.
I used to do some flower cooking around Christmas time, but it doesn't look like it'll be happening this year. Hit up the full story here.

More billet expensium
Here's another medium-format digital, this one a ground-up design. The Foveon-II
sports a triple-sensor 12-megapixel output imaging system that captures true color, rather than interpoloating a Bayer pattern.
The MSRP? $23,900.
Say it ain't so
DETROIT -- General Motors Corporation today announced that 2002 will be the last model year for the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird.
The Ste. Thérèse, Quebec plant where the vehicles are produced will close in the fall of 2002.
Alas, it's the end of an era. Sad to see them go, really.
[rant]
But I have to blame GM for the eventual demise of these cars. In recent years, they have gotten away from the essence
of a ponycar -- high performance with a low cost. They key was for young
people to be able to afford to buy them. But the cheapest Camaros that packed V8s close to $20k, and the
special models were over $30k. The Mustang regularly was several thou cheaper, not to mention the ricier alternatives.
This was more or less out of reach for your average working kid working your average working kid job.
In the end, the target audience just couldn't afford a Camaro, let alone a Firebird, because almost by definition,
they had a lot less money to spend than the typical riceboy whose parents buy them the Acura of their dreams.
Think about it -- if you want a cost-effective performance platform, you go with domestic cars, no question about it and
trendiness be damned.
If you got more money and want to stay trendy, you go and buy an import. GM lost out by building a car that only these
latter could afford, but would never want.

Gotta love a site with a purpose. Moviepooper is
all movie spoilers, all the time. Just the thing when you want to cut the crap.
You gotta fight ...
Kathy Rockel was amazed when her United Airlines flight last weekend began with an extraordinary message
from the pilot: He informed passengers how to rise up and fend off hijackers.
"If anybody stands up and is trying to take over the plane, stand up together, take whatever you have and throw it at their
heads," she quoted the pilot as saying. "You have to aim for their faces so they have to defend themselves."
Tef sent this to me a bit ago, but I think it is still current.

Roboroach
Here's a little page about the Japanese electronically controlled roach experiment.
Ick.

Like the classic ascade game Asteroids? Well here is a better one using real NASA pics.
More V-dub lub
A cool German VW site, play the game, its kinda neat!
BS
Broken Saints, a 24 part flash comic that will keep you glued to your monitor for hours!
Shoot it!
Heres another fucking cool one; put in a pic of (your favorite friend) if u like! HAHA
I think there was a similar site to this one posted before, but I can't seem to find it in the archive. -Raul

Hmmm ...
Don't Blow has come up with some interesting observations regarding the built-in Windows icon fonts.
For example, the above is "NYC" in Microsoft Wingdings.
Simpsonian hybridization
Nothing like something done in pure fun. This page is a Simpsons version of
If They Mated, originally a Conan O'brien schtick.
Hockeysnacks RIP
For those of you who have ever read Hockeysnacks,
be aware that it is going to end within the next few weeks. No word on how long the server will stay up after that, if at all.
Canon announces EOS-1D
No sooner had I posted the D1H article, but Canon announced its long-awaited answer to Nikon's D1 series (the D30 wasn't quite there) --
the EOS-1D professional digital SLR.
This thing is one impressive piece of work: 4.1 megapixels out of a huge CCD -- quite a ways larger than the Nikon D-series CCDs (but not quite
full 35mm frame), a whopping 8 fps drive speed, 21 image buffer, fully o-ring sealed body, simultaneous RAW-JPEG mode,
1/500 sec flash sync, 57 ms shutter release lag ... plus it cooks, cleans and washes windows to boot. The barfine?
$7,000 for the body only. Damn!
High
Well most of you probably already know about the Mile High club, but if you don't, here's the
quasi-official Web incarnation. Heck check it out even if you
DO know about it.
Mullets again
From Lankus: Here's an alternative to Mulletsgalore, the mullet
celebration site -- Mulletjunky.
Thou shalt not wiggle
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (Reuters) -- A three-day sex orgy just steps away from Rio de Janeiro's famous tropical beaches has been
canceled at the request of Brazil's Catholic Church, party organizers said on Saturday.

Hockey, hockey, hockey
Oh wonderful hockey, has it been so long? Finally the plane crashing news is slowly fading and the really important news is coming out now, the hockey news.
Sergei Fedorov busted for DUI.
Pitt over Atlanta 5-3.
And finally, ESPN and ESPN2 release their schedule and anticipated games here.
How much?
How much White Castle can one man handle? Granted, they're small, but 32 is way out of control. I ate 2 when I was last in Cincinatti, but I can't conceive how someone
could eat 16x that amount. Read about the White Castle Meat Product Tolerance Marathon Scorebook here.
Just a slight error
A woman who went shopping in her Ford Fiesta mistakenly drove home in someone else's Nissan Micra.
Carol Coleman, from Swansea, didn't realise her mistake until she'd been driving for a mile.

Plastic cult classics
Yep, Reservoir Dogs action figures. Couple of interesting notes:
the Mr. Pink character doesn't come with weapons, at Steve Buscemi's request. Mr. Blonde comes with a straight razor. And
the Marvin Nash figure comes complete with detached ear ... There is both a 6" series and
a more complete 12" series.
You can get em here or try
here, but they
seem to be out of stock in many places.
Wolfenstein redux
Id and Activision are revisiting one of the all-time great PC games -- Castle Wolfenstein.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein looks to be quite a
eye-pleasing game, and given Id's can't-miss track record, it'll probably be a masterpiece.
Fun with guns
I don't really know how to describe this site other than to say, Birdman Weapons Systems
is home to weapons that almost make sense -- or make too much sense! Be sure to check out the Homeboy Night Sights,
the Shot Caller and the 300rd. Uzi magazine (above).
DPReview does D1H
Well everyone's favorite review overkill site DPReview has gotten their hands on NIkon's new
D1H digital SLR.
It's the successor to the 2.7 megapixel, F5-based D1, one of the most highly acclaimed professional digital cameras
in recent memory. The H model still sports the same resolution, but has been worked over internally, now
capable of buffering 40 continuous shots and achieving cleaner high ISO images.
Here's an article
that pits the D1H against an upcoming super-high sensitivity (ISO) Kodak digital SLR; includes some good full-size
images. It's incredible what these cameras can do at 1600 ISO equivalency.
Bushes
A lot of political sites have toned down their commentary in the days following the 9/11 attacks, but at least there's archival material
to keep y'all busy. The First Twins is a site dedicated to Jenna and
Barbara Bush, the Prez's wayward daughters. Wholesome fun.
Enough! Save some for later.
