Well the Medal of Honor: Allied Assault demo is out, but it wasn't supposed to be. Somehow it was leaked, although it was supposed to debut on some PC magazine's demo disc. For those that don't recall, MOH:AA is a Quake3 engine-based WWII shooter. I tried it and am now convinced that while the Quake3 engine is great for fantasy blastfests, it is completely useless for modeling anyhting remotely realistic. GR has spoiled me forever on that. I now realize that a realism engine needs to be created as such from the ground up. But hey, give it a shot, you might find the run-and-gun style fun.

After several rounds of screwing up the Mac version of ICQ, the AOLusers that create it have actually released a half decent version. ICQ 3.0X for Mac is still in beta, but has fixed the biggest gripe with versions above 2.0 heretofore: the damn missing ICQ floater! It also moves to the current server-stored contact list paradigm.

Someone please tell me what the hell this is all about? Lunacy ...

As I usually do before a firework-able occasion, I post up an article on photographing fireworks. Here's one from Rob Galbraith, about shooting fireworks with a Nikon D1. Dark-frame subtraction and some of the other exposure considerations he discusses here apply to all digital cameras.
