Conclusion
Pros:
- Compactness means convenience
- Quality manufacturing
- Stable, highly functional software
- Costs little to operate
- Very easy to use
- Decent manufacturer support (software upgrades)
- Relatively cheap (if you think $100 is cheap)
Cons:
- Poor image quality
- No flash
- Zoom/320x240-pixel modes basically useless features
- Tough to catch action or low light scenes
- Somewhat expensive (if you think $100 is expensive)
All things considered, the PalmPix is basically what you would expect -- a sub-$100 digital camera (read: shitty digital camera)
that costs $100 because it fits a Palm. It will do everything a bottom-of-the-line digital camera will do, in a smaller
package.
The best use of the PalmPix, IMHO, is Web content. When you need to sell your used socks on eBay, email your friends with pictures
of the latest cruise or send a special something to Stile, you can reach for the PalmPix and it will get the job done. And you may find
that the PalmPix makes it on more of your daily adventures than any normal camera would.
I have had a lot of fun with my PalmPix in the time that I have had it. I do not regret buying it at all, and with the prices
coming down, would recommend it to anyone. Just have realistic expectations of what it can do before you buy.
It may not be the most l33t imaging device, but the coolness factor is definitely there.
